Geospatial data visualization is a core strength of PowerBI. You can visualize sales by country, city, or even distinct latitude/longitude points.
Creating a Map
- In the Visualizations pane, select the Map icon (looks like a globe).
- Drag your geographic field (e.g.,
CityorCountry) into the Location bucket. - Drag a metric (e.g.,
Total Sales) into the Bubble Size bucket.
Types of Maps
- Bubble Map: Good for comparing magnitude across regions.
- Filled Map (Choropleth): Good for showing density or market share by shading entire regions (states/countries).
- Azure Maps: Provides more advanced layers, such as traffic or weather overlays.
Ensure your data category is set correctly (e.g., “City” or “Place”) in the Data Modeling tab to help Bing Maps accurately locate your points (e.g., distinct Paris, Texas vs. Paris, France).
